Ben is an experienced communications and public policy professional. He has a track record of securing meaningful results on Capitol Hill, the campaign trail, and in state legislatures across the country.
Ben currently serves as Press Secretary in the Office of Maine Governor Janet Mills.
Before joining the Governor’s Office, Ben was Legislative and Communications Liaison at the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. As a senior aide to the Commissioner, Ben represented the Department before the Maine Legislature and the press on a wide variety of issues ranging from tax incentives to tourism.
From 2018 to 2022, Ben was National Director of Mission: Readiness, a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit organization of nearly 800 retired admirals and generals. Ben led the Mission: Readiness members and staff to advance bipartisan policy solutions to mitigate major health and educational barriers that keep more than 70% of young Americans from being eligible to serve in the military. Ben represented the organization in meetings in 29 states, and grew organizational staff by securing millions of dollars in new funding.
Prior to joining Mission: Readiness in 2015, Ben spent several years on Capitol Hill as an aide to former U.S. Congressman Mike Michaud of Maine. Ben was the Congressman's lead staffer for a wide range of policy priorities including health care, veterans' affairs, and natural resources.
Ben currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Global Liver Institute. He is a former member of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees and the Jewish National Fund-USA Board of Directors of Greater Washington, D.C.
Ben earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Maine, where he received highest honors for his thesis on the history of the Democratic Presidential Primary process. The research was used as the basis of a 2020 FiveThirtyEight podcast series, The Primaries Project.
